Risograph 101: GRADIENT PRINT PARTY!

  • St. Edward's University: Fine Arts Building, Rm 110A 3001 S Congress Ave Austin, TX, 78704 United States (map)

Learn about Risograph printing as we experiment with handcrafted gradients and make an edition of posters to trade during this 4-hour introductory workshop taught by our Designers in Residence, Edith Valle and Brandy Shigemoto.

We will begin with a brief presentation on the history, wonders, and delights of Risograph printing, followed by a tour of our Risograph Lab featuring our two-color Risograph MZ1090 and our selection of 8 vibrant inks (including metallic gold, fluorescent pink, and opaque white!).

Participants will learn the basics of working with the Risograph as they complete a project that involves creating gradients with traditional cut-and-paste techniques. The outcome will be creative and colorful posters that participants will trade and take home by the end of the workshop.

About the Designers in Residence:
Edith Valle graduated from St. Edward’s University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design. She is known for her colorful designs, illustrations, and paintings that are often inspired by her Mexican-American identity. Edith joined the Risograph Lab team in the fall of 2017. Since then, she has been experimenting, learning new techniques and has taught demos to other students.

Brandy Shigemoto is a designer from Austin, TX who was first introduced to the Risograph while studying at St. Edward’s University. Brandy now spends her days as a visual designer at Fjord (previously Chaotic Moon), and her nights working as part of the Risograph Lab team. Outside of design, she spends a lot of time at home taking pictures of her 2 cats while desperately trying to keep her plants alive.
